Sustainability
Forward-thinking Climate Action

Our Vision
To embed climate change education (CCSE) into the curriculum and develop positive self-regulation strategies to manage eco-anxiety.
To enhance sustainability efforts through improved waste management (food waste, plastics) and the "reduce, reuse, recycle" strategy.
To promote biodiversity by creating habitats, improving air and water quality and implementing rainwater harvesting.
To reduce energy usage by installing LED lightbulbs, solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations and electric minibuses to lower carbon footprint.
What We Do
Four-Pillar Approach
Halcyon's Climate Action Plan is structured around four core pillars - decarbonisation, adaptation and resilience, biodiversity and climate education - following recognised DfE and Nature Park frameworks. Students, staff and governors have worked together to calculate the schools' carbon footprints, install solar panels, embed climate change in safeguarding and map biodiversity through BioBlitz projects and wetland habitat creation. This collaborative, structured approach ensures environmental goals are deeply woven into the schools' systems, curriculum and culture.

Rooted in Action
Sustainability at Halcyon is not just taught - it is lived. Through our Halcyon Forest initiative, every child will plant and name a tree, making a lasting contribution to the environment and forming a tangible connection to the natural world. This individual commitment is mirrored in our federation-wide efforts: all of our schools are equipped with vehicle charging points, and we use electric minibuses to reduce our carbon footprint during trips. Our commitment extends beyond our gates, too - some of our leaders are active members of the Climate and Primary Education Alliance, supporting national efforts to embed climate education in schools. Together, these initiatives reflect our belief that climate must be both systemic and deeply personal, inspiring children to lead change at every level.
