The Arts
County-leading Creative Expression

Our Vision
To place the arts at the heart of a joyful, inclusive curriculum that empowers children to express identity, unlock opportunity and shape their community.
To develop pupil agency through meaningful leadership in the arts; planning projects, curating exhibitions and influencing curriculum design.
To build a sustainable and inclusive culture of music and creativity by offering high-quality teaching, live performance experiences and progression pathways for all.
To connect with cultural institutions, families and local networks to inspire creativity and raise aspirations.
What We Do
Arts as Identity, Expression and Opportunity
At Halcyon, we see the arts a powerful tool for identity, wellbeing and social change. From self-portraits in identity journals to school radio broadcasts, children are encouraged to reflect on who they are how they engage with the world. Our arts curriculum integrates contemporary and historical creatives, celebrating cultural diversity and giving space for every child's voice. Projects like Humanae, the Book of Thetford and the annual Art's Festival showcase children's creativity and amplify their aspirations.

Empowering Pupils, Supporting Staff, Leading Locally
Drake Primary School's award of Platinum Artsmark is a reflection of our long-term, strategic commitment to arts education. Pupils lead through our Arts Council, taking part in decision-making, monitoring sketchbooks, shaping curricula and interviewing artists.
Meanwhile, staff are supported through CPD, collaborative networks and resources like AccessArt. Early career teachers are mentored, supported with music tuition and embedded in creative communities.
Through our leadership in the Local Cultural Education Partnership (LCEP), and collaborations with organisations with the Royal Opera House and Theatre Royal Norwich, we are shaping not just our own future, but that of Norfolk and beyond.
